Creating a stained glass effect using Microsoft Digital Image software
** For these screen shots I used Microsofts Digital Image Suite 2006**
Please note: the effect that I used on the page top graphic text and daffodil was applied
using the Glass filter effect available from Alien Skin EyeCandy 5 Impact filters
I used this alien skin filter only to create this topper for this webpage.
Daffodil graphic from Easter creatable by Beth Logan at pcCrafter.com

I created a new blank canvas. I sized this canvas 10 inches x 10 inches
Next I insterted a square shape the same size as 10x10 , I placed a 8 point line edge
around the square.
Next I inserted shapes and lines all with using a 8 point line thickness.
I arranged all of my shapes to form a pattern.
Each shape and line at this point is a separate layer in my stack area.
I can click on any layer and edit, move or delete.

Once I had my design to my liking, I clicked on each shape and line in my
Stack while holding down my keyboard Control key - and then pressed
my Control key and the letter G for group to group/join all the shapes
and lines into one graphic.
Then using my Magic Wand I selected the black lines. The marching ants surround
the lines. I next chose from the Effects menu - Fill with Texture or Color.
I chose on the next screen the option of Fill with a Gradient color.
I chose a Gold / 2tone striped pattern and a style to achieve a brass like
fill color for my lines.

Then when I am back on the workspace - while the lines are still selected - I click on the
Copy button and copy the lines selected and next I "paste" that copied selection and
have that lines layer on top of first graphic of lines and shapes.

Then I chose that Lines only layer in my Stack and using the Effects menu, I chose
Plug-in filters and then I chose from my installed filters the Almathera plugin
A Beveller - I applied a Bevel edge to the lines.

Next I applied a Shadow to the lines only layer to provide depth.

Now I can begin to fill in the shapes on the shapes layer. I choose that layer from my
Stack and using the magic wand - I choose to use the Effects menu >>
Fill with Texture or Color option and then I choose Gradient fill colors.
I like the gradient fill color options as I think it helps create better
shaded color effects, similar to the way colored glass might be for stained glass windows.
But you can choose and play with colors, patterns, effects, etc. till you see
choices that are pleasing to you.

After I have filled all the areas that I want done. I can now apply Filter Effects to the colored shapes
layer. I choose from the Efffects menu >> Filters and All Filters.
I scroll through the various Filters , and I often will just apply a filter and then refine it
using the Advanced options link underneath each Filter and see what effect it has on
my graphic. If I don't like the effect I just move on and try other filters.
For these examples I chose the Water Ripple filter first.

Then I applied another filter
this time Swirl Scribble
