Part 2 / Creating a Plaid to  Coordinate with a Graphic(s)
I will be using the same basic steps as in my How to Create a Simple Plaid tutorial

Choose the red white and blue gradient pattern or a similar solid stripe pattern.

Place your graphic on top of the stripes.
For this example I used a graphic from: A Boy's Outing by Kate Merkley

Next choose a selection of stripes - example: select with your Magic wand all the red stripes.

Using the Effects menu > Fill with Texture or Color >> Select More color selections
then put eye dropper tool over area of graphic you want to fill selected stripes with.
You will see color chosen fill in the stripe. Keep moving eyedropper tool around graphic to choose shade of coloring that you want. Click done when satisfied with color.

Back on workspace, click on graphic, then again on Magic Wand, and pick another group of stripes (hold down your shift key to select more than one area at a time) choose all the white or all the blue ones.
Then again Fill stripes, this time choose another color from your graphic.
Continue to fill remaining stripes with a 3rd color.

Back on the workspace - Delete the graphic you used to select the colors for stripes. Follow steps you did to create your first Plaid.

Once plaid is created >> Place your graphic(s) back on top of background, and apply any effects such as Drop Shadows.
Name and save your graphic compilation.

Using 2 different graphics & 2 layers of different color stripes
for this example I used graphics from the creatable :
Welcome Spring by Debbie Crabtree
For this  - I placed the word Spring on top of my stripes and chose 3 colors from it.

Next when I duplicated the striped layer (to place horizontally on top of vertical stripes), I placed the Butterfly graphic on top of it, and using my Magic Wand, I reselected the stripes and filled with 3 colors from the Butterfly.
I then proceeded to create my Plaid using the 2 different color striped layers.
When complete I added my Graphics back and applied drop shadows to them.
I named and saved my graphic compilation.

To create another color variation - I selected bottom layer from the Stack, and using my magic wand I again selected stripes and filled with different colors - selecting again from the word Spring graphic & Butterfly. This changed the graphic coloring without having to use the transparency tool.
**You can use the transparency effect to produce more fading or create a coloring that you want.**
I saved this new plaid color variation graphic compilation with a *new* name.
